Saturday 26th April 2008

NANTWICH TOWN ( 3rd ) V Goole FC (7th)

Ahead of our final league match this afternoon (Saturday 26th April) Sheffield FC are now our only rivals for 3rd place after they played out a 1 – 1 draw last night (Friday 25th April) when at home to Stocksbridge Park Steels. The result leaves Sheffield one point adrift of ‘The Dabbers’ ahead of ‘The Steels’ final league match away to Alsager Town so the net result is, Sheffield have to win at Alsager, a draw would be of no value to them even if we lost to Goole, thanks to our superior goal difference. However, the 4 point gap between Sheffield and Stocksbridge is unchanged and with ‘The Steels’ superior goal difference they are guaranteed at least a finish no lower than 4th.

Taking into account midweek results from other matches involving play-off candidates the line up of clubs for next Tuesday’s semi final ties will not be known until after this weekend’s final league matches but the clubs most likely to feature are Nantwich Town, Sheffield FC, Stocksbridge Park Steels and Grantham Town. Meanwhile, all roads lead to ‘The Weaver Stadium’ for ‘The Dabbers’ clash with Goole. See you there!
