The final transfer window for season 2007- 2008 closed at 5pm this evening, meanwhile there has been late transfer activity at The Weaver Stadium with Christopher Clements arriving on work experience from Crewe Alexandra until the end of season, whilst Thomas Birch has signed for ‘The Dabbers’ from Blue Square North AFC Telford United.
18 year old Clements, an attacking midfielder, is in his second year as a scholar at Gresty Road. Christopher joined Crewe Alexandra at 12 years of age and to date, has scored 11 goals whilst featuring in the under 18’s side, including a brace against Premiership club Middlesborough earlier this season.
Thomas Birch is a winger, who until recently was on the books of Shrewsbury Town. Following release, the 18 year old joined AFC Telford United where he has been playing in the Central Conference League. Thomas has played six games in that particular league, but whilst Telford are content for the player to join Nantwich they have indicated their desire to retain his Blue Square North registration.
Meanwhile, Nick Farquharson has agreed to join Blue Square North club Nuneaton Borough until the end of season. Despite Nantwich official’s attempt to persuade him to remain on loan at The Weaver Stadium until the end of season, the desire to play at a higher level has taken him to the Warwickshire club. Nantwich Town would like to take this opportunity of thanking Crewe Alexandra for allowing him to complete a two month loan spell at The Weaver Stadium and also to Nick himself for the valuable contribution that he made during his loan spell.
The disappointment of Nick’s departure was hardly tempered earlier today by the news that Alsager Town utility player Dave Whittaker has decided against a move to Nantwich Town. The seven day’s notice of approach to the former Crewe Alexandra trainee expired on (Thursday 27th March) but despite showing interest during talks held earlier today, the very experienced UniBond league player then had a change of heart and has elected to remain with his current club.
However, despite those couple of setbacks on the playing front, before departing The Weaver Stadium at midday today (Thursday 27th March) the F.A Ground Grading Committee delivered some excellent news to Nantwich Town officials by awarding the club with a C grading for it’s stadium. The award of a C grade now means that The Weaver Stadium is of a standard that qualifies up to Blue Square North / South division level.
